SBS Classic diaper
When talking about washable diapers, the first question is : what do you mean, washable diapers? Like what our grandmas had? Well, could be. But it can also be like that, it looks like a disposable one, except that it's made of fabric. So no need to fold anything, just do as you are used to doing with a disposable one... Here is the outside of a classic diaper...
... and the inside!
Titoulosaure is ready for a new experience
Adjust the diaper depending on your child's size
Choose the right button for each wing
You can even attach one wing to the other!
Don't forget the wrapper
Titoulosaure is happy!
SBS Prefold
The prefold is much smaller than the square diaper. The fabric is much thicker, and in the middle there's like a multi-layer core.
* Titoulosaure sits on it, in the middle
* Check that the fabric is equally balanced behind and in front. Adjust the fabric between the legs (by folding it inside for instance)
* put the front corner as far back as possible. Then take the back corner together to the front & put the snappi to keep the diaper fitted
* don't forget the wrapper
Titoulosaure is happy!
Here, a prefold used as a booster, on a square diaper
What's up at Titoulosaure? Lots of pix, step-by-steps...
In previous messages i explained lots of things, but when you dont know what the person is talking about, even if the explanations are as clear as pure cristal... you still dont have the slightest idea of what the person is talking about.
So i hope these pix will help!
The Snappi, used with square diapers and prefolds :
A wrapper, to use with classic diapers (not available at Titoulosaure, this one is Hodayah's!):
A prefold diaperfolded so as to be used as a booster
Will you dare say those diapers aren't cute?!
Veil and PUL : to protect your baby's tussik from being wet. To protect the diaper from being stained.
Now let's start step-by-steps.
How to deal with square diapers?
* put the square diaper that way in front of you
* take both side corners and join them in the middle
* take the upper corner so that the top of the diaper is now a horizontal line
* take the down corner and put it on the top line of the diaper
The diaper is ready. Let's now put it on Titoulosaure!
* the narrow part of the diaper covers the front
* the widest parts of the diaper, which are in the back, wrap the baby Titoulosaure and come to the front
* the snappi keeps everything together
* let's not forget the waterproof wraper!
Titoulosaure is happy!
Titoulosaure is getting ready!
Because you've been nice and patient, some pictures...
3 different pictures for one diaper... well, it's the first washable diaper i show, so definitely it needs some special treatment!
Anyway, here is a "OneSize". Which means... that basically it can be used for a new born baby as well as for a toddler. How can such a thing happen? First of all, you can adapt the "belt" according to your baby. Second, you can very easily shorten the diaper as shown on the 3rd pic.
This very cute one is a AIO, "all in one", which means you dont have to add anything (like a wrapper for instance) : the wrapper itself contains a "pocket" (which is why those diapers are "AIO pocket") inside which you add the absorbent liner...
This particular one is for a new born. Unfortunately the picture doesnt show how small it is. It's so cute... I guess it would have barely been enough for half of my Hodayah's lovely tussik....
Washable diapers???? IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Yes. We also have to see that side of things.
I'm washablediapersconvinced as i already said, so i probably will forget things. If so, leave a comment, i'll try & answer asap (ok, you know what it means now)
* it's disgusting to deal with that
Ok, what about the disposable diaper? Is it better? You just throw it away, but it has the same colour, smell...
When you nurse baby, usually the poopoo is like liquid, you dont even have to pre-wash it, just put everything in the washing machine & that's fine.
If you have classical diapers (as opposed to AIO, you'll soon get to understand those strange words), then yes, your fingers can be a bit wet... Then dont be fussy, next time you'll change your beloved's nappy earlier!
When your child is older & doing "normal" poopoo, then just throw the poopoo in the garbage. You can even have a "veil", a kind of paper you put between the diaper & your baby's tussik, so that you can dispose of it quickly, without it being "dirty".
I must say i never used such things. To me it's like transforming a washable diaper into a disposable one. You pay for the paper, it isnt ecological, i cant imagine it is comfortable. But still i understand some moms want that. So Titoulosaure HAS some of this magic paper.
* it's complex to use
ah ah ah! Come and see... most modern diapers are just like disposable ones, except that they are made of fabric. If you want to do like your grandma, you can, you can still find those square, thin, diapers that you have to fold in a very special way. And you know what? Those diapers are actually the best : very very cheap, very easy to find wherever you are (it's quite difficult to find washable diapers in Israel for instance, but you can find those basic diapers almost everywhere), they get dry almost instantly & are very strong...
* my baby keeps on crying
True. With the disposable ones Baby doesnt know he is wet. He doesnt feel urine attacking him. You dont hear Baby. Everything's fine. Let's be lazzy. It's actually a blessing Baby tells you to change his nappy. Once again if you nurse baby and need to know if he gets enough milk, dont wory, with washable diapers you'll very easily get to know!
* OMG, it's red!
Yes, it can happen. Being wet, Baby's tussik can turn red more easily. What's good is that it goes away very easily, with "liniment". And at least it's natural, it isnt caused by an external poison. And it wont be increased by a poison.
* it smells
Depends on the child. Some babies have a very smelly weewee. Others dont. Same for poopoo. Dont blame the diapers!
* it isnt ecological
argh... i must say in a way i quite agree. Let's say it depends on where you live. When we were still in France water didnt seem to be a problem as there was rain about 300 days a year... but in Israel you get to cherish every drop. So is anyting "washable" really environmentally friendly?
As i said in a previous message, dsposable diapers require quite a lot of petrol/water/energy to be created. And they dont last long. Whereas washable diapers also require water & energy to be created & washed. But they require less water at first. As for a regular use, i'd say that i have a full washing machine per week that's it. And i've never done a complete load with washable nappies, usually i add them to the existing load when i dont have enough clothes to start a machine for instance. So, YES, it is environmentally friendly.
* Those diapers are enormous, where to store them???
Same question with the jumbo pack of disposable diapers. And if those diapers are enormous, once again it's a blessing : imagine when your child is a toddler, trying to walk but not really succeeding. With those fit & thin diapers, oy! It hurts! With washable diapers it's like landing on a cloud. I'm sure if i were a baby i wouldnt want to walk...
edit #1 * oh look! Baby's all wet!
Uhh... yes... it can happen. Because the diaper is too old (like it was used for 4 tussikim intensively & needs to retire). Because, i'm sorry, you didnt put it correctly so how could it work??? Because it doesnt fit your baby. Yes, there are different kinds of nappies. Different labels. Let's find the one that fits your baby and that could deal with easily.
Why does your baby need and deserve washable diapers?
I'm pretty sure you are very deeply involved in your child's well-being. And even if YOU smoke, you dont want the smoke to go near you beloved's face, because it's BAD for him.
Well... let's imagine "normal" nappies are just some kind of giant cigarettes.
http://www.vivre-bio.fr/post3021.html (dont worry, googletranslate is your friend)
((you can find many other websites explaining the same thing))
http://healthwyze.org/index.php/component/content/article/475-toxins-in-disposable-diapers-dioxin-and-sodium-polyacrylate.html It also works in english!!!
Yes, you'll soon find out that quite a lot of parents are concerned about what touches their baby's skin. And disposable nappies, though very thin, though very cute with drawings and blablablah, can be dangerous and frightening.
But let's say it's an urban legend & that those diapers are victims of the washable diaper lobby which as you can imagine is tremendously important & threatening.
So why would you use washable nappies for your kid?
Because it's environmentally friendly. For sure... imagine, a disposable diaper is made of petrol, it requires an enormous quantity of water to make it. And it lasts a few hours. Sometimes just a few seconds. And dont you want your child to live in a better world?
Ok, it's none of your business, you arent going to change the world, & people wont suddenly respect the planet just because they see a washable nappy, you are right.
What else could make you choose those nappies?
Because you are lazzy. You dont feel like running to the shop. You dont feel like carrying this huge pack of nappies that does not even last a week? You dont want to go to the garbage every 5 minutes because junior "did it again"?
Ok, i'm sorry, no one's lazzy. But maybe then you'd like to stop spending so much money on things that are destroyed so quickly. You buy it & they disappear a few hours later. When you buy a washable diaper it's more expensive than buying lots of disposable ones for sure. But imagine... your children can inherit one day!
But maybe they wont be tempted to do like their parents. Who knows?
What about fashion? When you see those little nappies, it's so cute, so soft... Today my daughter is wearing "Alice in wonderland". I'm so proud of her that she has a short dress, just so that everybody can see her "popotin" as we say in french. I keep on thinking that one day we'll have more pictures of their tussik than of their faces with such lovely nappies. Dont worry, pix asap (which means... not now)
The concept
That was another difficult thing to deal with...
At first i thought of buying diapers for families who needed it. And that's actually what i did for a family (though i still havent done the check...) But let's be honest. I'm not rich, so if i keep on doing that, then Titoulosaure will definitely be a dinosaur : something of the past, extinct, dead.
Whereas if i rent diapers, then it has multiple advantages :
* i can help lots of families instead of just one, now and then
* i can help people who dont need financial support, but who simply want to discover another way of dealing with their baby's production.
* i can also use them if necessary (to be honest i didnt even consider that before, but today Hodayah decided to do some unexpectedly enormous thing and both her wrappers were dirty... so i had to take one of the diapers from Titoulosaure)
* it can possibly help friends : one who sells washable diapers (if people like the diapers, i can talk to them about her, and she can have new customers), and one who is a naturopath & deals with natural products...
Then i had to decide what to do, how much to ask for a diaper & so on.
I checked the price of dia
Titoulosaure is born!
Finding a name was quite difficult. Once again, something to do with involvement.
How to find a name that's "relevant", short, not too common or kind of stupidly romantic (especially when dealing with poo-poos & wee-wees as mentioned before).
Lots of people consider washable diapers as something of the past. Something that finally got rid of. So i wanted the name of the gmah to bear this in mind.
A diaper in hebrew is "titul". So it quite easily became Titoulosaure. The dinosaur that wears a diaper. And if you've ever seen Jurassic Park you know that dinosaurs can come back. And can even multiply ^^
Anyway i just didnt come up with a name. I had in mind a quite precise idea of what Titoulosaure actually looked like.
As my daughter draws pretty well, i asked her to make the perfect picture of Titoulosaure. And for some reason she just did terrible things. so one evening i took a paper, a pencil, & started painfully drawing what was in my mind. I showed her the result. Titoulosaure is sitting, he has a diaper of course, he's a dinosaur that looks more or less like a crocodile, and he's plump. After all he's a baby. My daughter kept on saying my drawing was wonderful blablablah. But her improving my drawing was far more impressive. My husband added his personal touch, and that was it! Titoulosaure was born!
(i promise i'll put a picture asap)
One day, as i was shopping, i saw a stuffed animal. I couldnt believe it... It was Titoulosaure! Except for the unnecessary cap, the make up & the scarf... I thought it was silly to buy it so it stayed there. But i regretted it. And a few days later Titoulosaure arrived at home. And my children immediately put a diaper on him (or her considering the make-up)...
(again, i promise i'll put a picture asap)
Why? When? Where? What?
Quite a lot of things to deal with...
Well, let's try to explain, briefly, why, when...
We arrived in Israel a bit more than a year and a half ago. I was completely amazed from the start by this "esprit de corps" you can find here, how helpful people are, how they do their best to try and help you.
When we arrived, i already had in mind the creation of a gmah. I already knew i wanted to do something. After having received help from so many people, in so different ways, i really want to be part of it and help people the best i can.
But how to create a gmah? And what kind of gmah? That was probably the hardest thing to deal with... What kind of gmah. You have so many gmahim... so many different kinds. I wanted something i would like, something i'd feel involved in. Not just helping people, in a cold way. Helping people in something that's meaningful to me. And not just helping poor people, which to me would be like a bit scornful. Helping people who need help. Who need information. Who need to discover something. Not just seeing everything through the screen of money ^^
A friend wanted to get rid of wigs. I thought this could be the idea! I had heard of such a gmah, but not in Efrat, so, why not???
But i wasnt that excited about the idea. I didnt know what to do, how to start the thing, and more important.. i dont like wigs. Women can look so incredibly beautiful with wigs that i dont see how it could be considered as tsanoua. So i really dont feel involved in such a thing.
Then, my baby was born. My Hodayah. The little being who reminds me everyday why we are here, and why we should thank G for everything we receive. And why there's no reason to worry because when we look at everything we had to go through and managed without real problems, then definitely there's someone looking after us and making sure life isnt too difficult, even if it sometimes looks terrible!
Anyway. I'm washablediapersconvinced. Waouh. A long word. I guess it proves how involved i am. And definitely i can be very passionate talking about diapers. Yes. No need to laugh at me. I agree, we are talking about tussik, poo-poo, wee-wee, smells & other very nice things.
But let's admit that we are fond of our babies. we are their biggest fans. So why not the best for them? And when the best is cheap, convenient AND fashionable... then why try & resist?
